Disney Design Group Artist Bob Holden says, “The Walt Disney Imagineering team was an outstanding partner,” exclaimed Bob. “They provided the art files that we used for the merchandise. The designs that you see on the shirts and other items were lifted directly from artwork that guests will see at the new resort.”

Much of the art that you see around the Art of Animation Resort is featured on the merchandise that you will find in the Ink and Paint Shop.

Merchandise available ranges from t-shirts to tumblers to notebooks. There will also be two pins available that were created for the opening of the Art of Animation.

The food court is broken into several seating areas representing the different sections of the resort — Lion King, Cars, Finding Nemo, and Little Mermaid.

Each dining room has concept art drawings and themes from the films decorating the walls and ceiling.

The “Big Blue” pool measures 11,859 square feet and guests will be able to explore the colorful reef with a giant-sized Mr. Ray whose wings span 27 feet and play with Squirt in the Righteous Reef, a children’s play area.

The resort is full of bright colors and larger than life icons from your favorite Disney and Pixar films. After stepping into Animation Hall, both adults and children will delight in the pictures on the wall.

The Art of Animation Resort is a Value Resort that offers both standard rooms and suites that will sleep up to 6 people. The family suites that feature Cars, Finding Nemo and The Lion King will be the first available to guests and The Little Mermaid standard rooms will open late this year.

The outside of each building is bright and colorful with larger than life icons – you’ll feel like you are little Nemo in the big blue world!

Each suite will feature a living area with a couch that pulls out into a bed and several chairs as well as a television.

Perfect for eating a meal in your room or even playing games or getting some homework done, there is a table and chairs. Remove the chairs and you can transform the area into another sleeping area with a Murphy bed.

Right as you walk in, there is a bathroom to your right featuring a bathroom with unique touches like a Bruce shower curtain and a mirror that says “Fish are friends”.

There is also a kitchenette in the suite with a sink ,microwave and a slightly large fridge that you normally get at values.

Samawati Springs Maji Pool Bar at Animal Kingdom Lodge

If you’re staying at Kidani Village at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you’ll be able to enjoy drinks and basic food items like sandwiches and fruit from the Maji Pool Bar.

Kidani Village guests also have the option of ordering from a selection of bento box dishes and have them served in the pool area. Simply make a call from a house phone and place your order. Food will arrive and be served to you by the pool similar to room service.

Petals Pool Bar is located by the 1960’s Hippy Dippy pool and will help you quench your thirsty with a great variety of frozen, on-the-rocks, and non-alcoholic drinks!

No food is served at Petals, but you’re welcome to bring food over from the Everything Pop food court and bring it poolside. Alcohol costs here range from a $4.75 draft beer to the $10.25 Mango Margarita. Non-alcoholic offerings are all under $5.

The Banana Cabana is the perfect place to settle in for an afternoon or evening drink next to the Old Port Royale Pool.

Enjoy a variety of mixed drinks, frozen or on the rocks; wines; and draft, canned, or bottled beers. Try out the specialties: the Pina CoLAVA and the Orange Dream.

• The Nemo pool has 310,000 gallons and is the largest pool on Disney property, not counting water parks
• If you combined all the swimming pools, you could park 125 cars inside the pools
• Its 27 acres of landscaping and irrigation is the equivalent of twenty football fields.
• With 227,000 lineal feet of carpet could stretch from downtown Orlando to Kennedy Space Center.
• There are over 529,000 square feet of ceramic tiles on the project, enough to cover a standard two-lane road four miles long

What’s your favorite fun fact?

Check-in at Art of Animation Resort will be an updated, re-thought way when it opens next month. There will no longer be the long desk staffed by multiple cast members. Instead, guests will experience a more personal check-in.

A series of small tables to serve as a check-in point for guests and they will be greeted individually by cast members who will assist them in getting settled into the resort.

Guests will also find the lobby filled to the brim with animation art from Disney movies!

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is also the first Walt Disney World resort to utilize RFID scanners and chips in the room keys. Guests heading to their room will simply lift their room key, complete with an RFID chip in it, up to the lock where it will be scanned.

Last year, Disney started a new system by placing an RFID chip in refillable mugs at Disney’s All Star Sports Resort. There’s been the introduction of a Talking Mickey and talk of Radio Frequency ID Bracelets.

Now, with the upcoming opening of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, they will be introducing RFID proximity door locks. Instead of the regular key card swipe locks, the doors will feature RFID proximity sensors. Guests will no longer have to slide their key card into a slot, now they will just have to hold the card up near the door and it will unlock.

This is exciting news and perhaps one day you will be able to scan that card and enter Disney Parks, obtain a FASTPASS and pay for everything you need!
