The newest restaurant at Disney’s BoardWalk – home of the BoardWalk Inn – opens today.
Trattoria al Forno is located in the former home of Kouzzina by Cat Cora which closed earlier this year.
As is the case with many Disney dining establishments, there is a backstory that was created for Trattoria al Forno by Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Parks Food & Beverage Concept Development.
The story of the restaurant, which will be serving authentic food and 100 percent Italian wines, was “inspired by the authentic Italian menu and rich storytelling of the turn-of-the-century boardwalk setting,” according to Missy Renard, Walt Disney Imagineering resorts art director.
As the story goes, an Italian family ran a modest tavern and boarding house on the boardwalk that was expanded over the years into a restaurant. The menu reflects recipes that have been handed down over the years.
Trattoria al Forno was designed as a series of separate rooms that reflect the original boarding house rooms being converted into dining spaces. The rooms include the Cucina (kitchen), the forno (oven) which is the centerpiece, the Sala da Pranzo which is the formal dining room, and the Salotto (living room).
The restaurant opens today, December 18, and is open for breakfast and dinner. You can read more about the menu at Trattoria al Forno here.
