If you have ever visited Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, you know there are amazing details everywhere you look.

Even the resort’s logo holds special significance. The arch logo is based on a traditional Hawaiian canoe house. This design is also featured in the Maka’ala lobby and the actual layout of Aulani.

The Maka’ala lobby is meant to express the spirit of aloha while letting guests know that there are more stories to learn about in Hawaii.

The Aulani resort itself was designed to reflect a Hawaiian valley that opens to the sea from the highlands to the lowlands, according to Joe Rhode, creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering.

The concept of time flowing from the past to the future (mountains to the sea) is seen the architecture of Aulani.

Around the resort guests will see Hawaiian canoes, which are meant to represent what makes Hawaiian culture Hawaiian. The canoes also celebrate the Hokulea, which is the canoe connected to the cultural revival in the 1970s.
